Homeward
Along the 110, where silence reigns,
My wheels roll on a path so ghostly bare,
A road once alive, now bound in unseen chains,
I journey homeward, through the somber air.
With each mile, my heart grows heavy, laden
With the sights of a world forever changed,
The joy and bustle, now memories faded,
In this new reality, estranged.
Remorse grips my heart, as I witness this,
The city's lively spirit, now in abyss,
In each vacant lot I witnessed, each quiet corner,
I feel the weight of this era's mourner.
Homeward bound, alone on this freeway's course,
I carry with me, reflections so deep,
A journey marked by sorrow's force,
In my heart, these solemn memories I keep.
May this journey home through deserted lane,
Teach my heart to cherish, amidst the pain,
And in this reverent, quiet drive,
Find the fortitude for hope to survive.
